SteppingStone Theatre Access Programs

ADA Accessibility:

Scheduled Audio Description and ASL Interpretation. The theatre offers regularly-scheduled Audio Described and ASL Interpreted performances for each production, with those services offered at no additional cost to the patron. In general, Audio Described performances are scheduled for the second Friday 7pm performance of each run. ASL Interpreted performances are scheduled for the second Sunday afternoon performance of each run.

Non-Scheduled Interpretation. SteppingStone Theatre will provide interpreters for any school-day performance as needed at no additional cost to the requesting school.

Assisted Listening. Assisted listening devices are available by request at the box office.

Wheelchair Accessibility. SteppingStone Theatre's new facility is fully wheelchair accessible. The accessible entrance is located on the North side of the building off the alley parking lot. There are two reserved accessible parking spaces adjacent to the entrance. From this entrance, patrons can go down to the offices and studios, up to the auditorium and lobby, and further up, to the stage. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located in the lobby and on the lower level.

Economic Accessibility:

We have a number of programs for designed to make our programs affordable and accessible to anyone who would like to participate in our programs:

Neighbor Days. The first Saturday of each production, we offer residents of the surrounding neighborhood tickets for just $2 each—an 85% discount. This gives a large number of lower-income families a chance to attend our productions for a very reasonable rate, learn more about us, and for them to begin to feel that the community has a stake in the theatre’s success.

Grand Person’s Days. The first Sunday of each production, we invite patrons to take part in our Grand Person’s Day at no additional charge. The participants arrive at SteppingStone Theatre an hour and half before the production and participate in a show related activity, snack (that is donated by local coffee shops—Golden Thyme and Nina’s Coffee Café) and story time that is free with admissions to Sunday’s show. The Junior League of Saint Paul has been partnering with us on designing a fun activity and story that extends the experience and develops a chance for audience members to have additional connections to SteppingStone Theatre.

Ticket Scholarships. Any school that requests it, has the opportunity to apply for a ticket scholarship that will lower the per-student cost of attending by up to 100% depending on the demonstrated need. Between 20-30% of all of our patrons historically have been the recipients of ticket scholarships. We work directly with teachers and principals, as well as through the “Tix for Tots” service to distribute the tickets. Please contact Christine Shyne for more information.

Class Scholarships. Scholarship applications for Summer Camps, and Fall, Winter, or Spring Classes are available by request. Please contact Nikki Anthony for more information.
