Community Education Programs
Since 1987, SteppingStone Theatre has been the leader in providing theatre classes for community education, after-school programs, recreation centers, social service agencies and other programs. SteppingStone Theatre’s Community Education & Out-of-School Programs have become the standard for theatre arts education in the Twin Cities because of our ease of scheduling, and especially our talented and innovative artist-educators!
Programs Designed Just For You!
From creative play to specialized acting classes, SteppingStone Theatre’s programs offer unique avenues of expression, collaboration, community-building, and fun! If one of our classes on this site does not fit the bill, we’ll start from scratch to come up with something suited to your time, space, or curriculum needs—at no extra cost! SteppingStone Theatre will work with you to tailor a program to fit the needs of your organization.

Recommended classes for grades K-6
Create-a-Play©
This class is great for natural storytellers. Students will create a play using one of the themes on the opposite page. Students will learn the basics of story structure, character building and working as an ensemble. By the end of their class, students will have a short play to share! (Minimum 6 Contact Hours)
Beginning Acting
Bursting with creativity and imagination this class is a great place to start learning the tools for acting.
Improvisation
Students learn to think on their feet, work as an ensemble, and learn building blocks for creating theatrical characters.

Tales from Around the World©
Each class period students will read a different international folktale and then use creative movement and dramatics to bring the story to life.
Superheroes
The local chapter of Super Heroes for Good, has united to rid the world of rudeness and bullying throughout the land!
A Pirate’s Treasure©
Set sail for a voyage you won’t forget! Pirates and landlubbers will come to see if treasure maps lead to fabulous riches!
Fractured Fairytales©
Mishaps, Mayhem, and Mischief! The pigs are in the castle! Seven Dwarfs are climbing up Rapunzel’s hair!!! What else could happen in this silly twisted tale?
Whodunnit©
Calling all detectives! Grab your magnifying glass and dusting powder. Follow the clues to solve the mystery.
We also offer a variety of Specialty Classes that can be offered as one-time workshops or over the course of a season.
Play in a Box©: Create a Play in a Day!
Hip-Hop Dance: Come groove through the ages! Learn the basics of hip-hop dance, rhythm, and where does it come from anyway?
Mask-Making: Let your imagination soar! Create a character through a mask! Each week we will explore different creative ways of making masks to create characters from your imagination using materials such as foam, yarn, glitter, pipe cleaners and much more!
Other themes include:
• Language and culturally specific classes
• Classes for older youth such as “Musical Theatre,” or “Comedy Improvisation” or
Teen Issue Create-a-Play©.
Fees
• $55 per class-hour, plus 1 hour for planning (Specialty Classes: $60 per hour.)
• Supplies and materials costs not included
• Payment is due the last day of the class!
• If you cancel in writing at least one full week before the first class, there is no charge!
• Prices valid through 8/31/10
For programs occurring further than 15 miles from downtown St. Paul:
• We strongly recommend programming no less than 2 consecutive hours
• Additional fees may apply, please contact us for a quote
For the best experience for the participants, we suggest you arrange classes by age:
Pre-K & K (3-1/2–5 yrs); Gr. 1 & 2 (6–8 yrs);
Gr. 3–6 (9–12 yrs); Gr. 7 & 8 (12–14 yrs)
