SST is delighted to offer our first acting performance training program for Middle School theatre artists. Students work in a small cohort alongside a director to explore performance skills in-depth with group & 1-on-1 coaching. This fast-paced interdisciplinary training program focuses on acting and performance skills, with an emphasis on learning vocabulary and technique using scripted material. Rehearsal process focuses on building an inclusive ensemble of peers dedicated to re-imagining a well-known story for the stage.
An extension of our summertime musical theatre program, LEAP: Studio Stage focuses on staging productions in a small “black box” theatre space where students are guided by their teaching artist to be heavily involved in all facets of the production including imagining fresh interpretations, blocking, character development, and the minimalistic approach to set, prop, and costume construction.

No audition to participate. An audition process to assign roles will be held during the first week of rehearsal. Students of all experience levels are welcome. Teen workshops focus on refining theatre skills in acting, vocal technique, movement, stagecraft, and production while cultivating rich, collaborative experiences as an ensemble. Teens work together on devised or scripted material, relevant to their lives, while identifying universal themes or common social issues. In a positive and supportive process, teens reflect critically on their work to offer/receive constructive peer feedback on their artistic growth while learning about the larger context of Art in their lives.
