You have been signed up for 7:00 pm!
Date: March 26, 2018
SteppingStone Theatre is proud to invite you to audition for our Core Company! We’re seeking young men and women ages 15-19 to be a part of our Core Company for the 2018-19 season.
What is Core Company?
Core Company is our teen acting company, who are leaders and mentors for their peers. Core Company meets with the Artistic Director and the Production Manager on a monthly basis, attends training workshops, and each Core Company member participates in 1-3 productions, either as an actor or a technician.
What are you looking for?
We’re looking for teens who have the ability to act, sing, and dance skillfully. We’re also looking for individuals with leadership skills, who show initiative and agency. For those interested in the technical side: we’re also looking for individuals with leadership skills, initiative, agency, and competency in technical theatre skills. Technicians should apply separately, and not sign up for an audition slot (unless they’d like to do both). More info below!
Actors and technicians of color, LGBTQA+, and differing abilities are encouraged to apply and audition!
What will I be expected to do?
When in a show, the Core Company is expected to lead warm-ups, provide support and assistance to their peers throughout the rehearsal and production process. They will also assist the stage managers, directors, or Production Manager as needed. Core Company members will be cast in shows wherever they’re needed—it might be as a technician, a supporting or ensemble role, or a lead role. For each show in which they participate, Core Company members will receive a stipend based number of weeks they are in rehearsal and production. There is no stipend given when Core Company isn’t participating in a show.
Core Company will receive training from staff and other theatre professionals, and participate in workshops or masterclasses to work on and improve their skills. There will also be opportunities for play readings, trips to theaters, and small studio production work during the year.
What is the time commitment like?
Core Company will meet as a company at least 16 times a year, with activities ranging from training with visiting artists, to planning and discussion meetings with the Artistic Director and Production Manager. When Core Company is in a show, the time commitment is higher. Core Company can indicate their availability, if conflicts are known.
There may be other outside time commitments, such as attending theatre performances together as a group; or we may ask for the Core Company to assist us with projects, voluntarily.
How do I sign up for auditions?
We will accept registrations for auditions up until noon on the day of the audition date. If registration has closed or all slots are full and you’d still like to audition, please call SteppingStone Theatre during business hours: 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday. If all audition slots are full, a wait list will be started.
How will auditions work?
Auditions will be held on Monday, March 26, from 6-9 pm in 30 minute slots. We ask that you come prepared with a comedic or dramatic monologue under 1 minute. We’ll teach a song and dance piece at the time of the audition, which will be learned and performed together. Please bring a resume, and a headshot/clear photo of your face; the photo will not be returned to you. Arrive early so you have enough time to fill out the forms.
When you arrive, please come up the large steps and up to our ceremonial entrance under the pillars. Free street parking is available all around the building, though pay close attention to the signs and posted limitations. The City tickets regularly. Please do not park in our staff lot; we have two handicapped/accessible parking spaces available.
Callbacks and further interviews will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at 6 pm. Any individuals selected for these will be notified no later than Friday, March 30. Not everyone will be asked to attend callbacks.
I’m interested in participating exclusively on the technical side. What should I do?
Please submit a resume, and a brief summary of what your skills and interests are in technical theatre. Please email this to Rachel Ostroot (email@example.com), the Production Manager, by Monday, March 26, at 5 pm. A small pool of candidates will be selected to be interviewed on Tuesday, April 3, at 6 pm.
Anything else I should know?
Core Company represents a portion of our young community, and is intended to nurture strong artistic mentoring and leadership from young artists. They’re treated as and expected to be professionals. They are representatives and ambassadors of SteppingStone Theatre.
I have questions. Who should I ask?
Please email them to Rachel Ostroot (firstname.lastname@example.org), the Production Manager.
