T.I.E.S. to Curriculum© for Grades K-3, 4-6
T.I.E.S. is “Theatre in Education Strategies.” Classroom teachers and SteppingStone Theatre teaching artists take an event or issue from the curriculum and create workshops in which students put themselves into the middle of the subjects they are learning. The SteppingStone Theatre artist and the students will assume roles, improvise in the situation and see how it plays out. The next dramatic activity is then shaped by the previous one.

This series of enactments allows students to step into the story themselves and imagine how they would think, feel, and behave in that situation. Students gain a deeper understanding of a subject by exploring the topic, imagining themselves as participants in the events, and discovering how choices are made that shape outcomes.

Activities & Outcomes
Students will:

• Reinterpret subject matter to create characters
• Enact events and issues from curriculum
• Hone critical thinking skills through role-playing
• Discover how individual choices affect events

* 4-10 hours (or more) classroom time
* 2 hours planning time
