Grades 7-12: LEAP Musical
THIS CLASS IS SOLD OUT
ABOUT LEAP: Musical
LEAP: Musical offers teens of all experience levels an opportunity to be immersed in the process of bringing a production to life. You will spend your days in rehearsal, participating in staging, dance, and music practice. You will be a part of building the set, props, costumes, hair, and makeup. The experience culminates in 16 outdoor public performances of a Zoo-Themed Musical (Title forthcoming. Hint- they like to Move It Move It!)
REGISTRATION & PREREQUISITES
Open to young artists who will be ages 13-19 as of June 2021. Those who fall outside of this age range will not be permitted. There are no other prerequisites to register and all who register will be cast in the production. This camp is devoted to creating a growth mindset around the concept of mastery for teen artists of all theatrical backgrounds (including those who are having their first theatre experience). However, conflicts with rehearsal and performance dates must be minimal.
Things to consider: This is an intensive program. There is an expectation to memorize staging, dialogue, songs, and choreography quickly . For the wellbeing of all involved, young artists must have the endurance to withstand 8-hour days, which entail extensive information processing, social interaction, and physical activity, while meeting & maintaining their basic physical & mental health needs. Please contact us if your young artist needs accommodations.
An audition process to assign roles will be held in mid-June. Some roles may be double-cast. More information about the audition, including dates and how to prepare, will be sent in May. Our auditions are designed with beginners in mind and we strive to make the process as comfortable and fun as possible.
Rehearsals will take place at Park Square Theatre in downtown St. Paul. Young artists will rehearse Monday-Friday, July 12-23, from 9:00am-4:30pm. Those cast in leading roles will begin rehearsal July 5-9, to work on songs, movement, and character development. Dress rehearsals will be held on Sunday, July 25 and Monday, July 26 (times TBD).
Mon-Fri, Jul 5-9 | principals-only rehearsal
Mon-Fri, Jul 12-23 | full-cast rehearsal
Sun-Mon, Jul 25-26 | full-cast dress rehearsal
Performances will take place at an outdoor amphitheater in St. Paul. For weekday matinees, young artists will be called from 9:00am – 4:30pm. For weekend performances, young artists will be called 1.5 hours prior to the show and are dismissed immediately following each performance. Attendance during all performances is required. Conflicts with performance dates must receive approval from the director and may hinder the opportunity to be cast in a leading role. Performances may be cancelled or rescheduled due to weather.

Sat-Sun, Jul 31-Aug 1 | 12:00pm & 4:00pm
Sat-Sun, Aug 7-8 | 10:00am & 2:00pm
Peer Leadership Program
Open to LEAP: Musical registrants ages 16+
The Peer Leadership program provides a deeper learning experience and leadership opportunities for young artists who are eager to learn more about musical production. Peer Leaders support LEAP: Musical by assisting artistic staff, mentoring fellow cast members, and facilitating small-group rehearsals in music, choreography, and character work. Peer Leaders can elect to be matched with a member of the artistic staff to learn more about directing, stage managing, music, or choreography. An invitation to apply will be sent to all registrants ages 16+ in April. In May, interviews will be conducted and Peer Leaders will be selected. Registration fees for the program will be waived for those who are selected. Not all applicants will be selected, the Peer Leaders program is not required to participate in LEAP: Musical.
SteppingStone is committed to ensuring the health & safety of all young artists and artistic staff. COVID safety measures LEAP Musical will enforce include: reduced cast size, daily health screenings, mask-wearing, social distancing, frequent hand washing & sanitizing, snack & lunch breaks outdoors, excellent air circulation & purification of indoor spaces, and daily disinfecting of all spaces. The staging will be socially distanced, and young artists will remain masked onstage & backstage. During performances, audience members will be seated in socially distanced family pods. - Pay as You are Able
Other Dates for this Program
THIS CAMP IS PAY AS YOU’RE ABLE
Our full registration fee represents the amount that it costs us to bring this program to you. But during this trying financial and emotional time for families, SteppingStoneprograms are Pay As You’re Able.
That means exactly what it says -pay what your family can afford. That may mean covering your fees and someone else’s. It also may mean paying half or some of the fee. If these options do not work for your family financially, we still want for your young artist to be able to attend. Email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work with you to make attendance possible.
