The woods outside Athens are a busy place on this magical, moonlit night! Four runaway lovers find themselves smack bang in the middle of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies, and, as if that wasn’t enough, a troupe of amateur actors are trying to rehearse a terrible (or terribly comedic) play. Between these unlikely groups flies Puck, armed only with a wicked sense of humor and a love potion capable of making anyone fall for the first person they set eyes upon. What could possibly go wrong? There is no shortage of fantastical characters, language, and scenes in Shakespeare’s most enchanting play.

An intensive Performance Training Program for Middle & High School theatre artists who are eager to begin auditioning for productions at school or in their community. LEAP: Studio Stage is designed to bridge the gap between Theatre Classes and a Main Stage Production. Perfect for students who are curious to work with scripted material, demystify the audition/rehearsal process, or develop their acting chops. Students work in a small cohort alongside a Teaching Artist/Director to explore performance skills in-depth with guidance and coaching. This fast-paced interdisciplinary training program focuses on acting and performance skills, with an emphasis on learning vocabulary and technique, using scripted material. The rehearsal process focuses on building an inclusive ensemble dedicated to re-imagining a well-known story for a small, black-box stage. Students are heavily involved in all facets of the production including blocking and the minimalistic approach to set, prop, and costume construction.
None! Middle & high school students of all experience levels are encouraged to register. This program is open to students in Grades 6-12.
No audition to participate. An audition process to assign roles will be held during the first week of rehearsal. Students of all experience levels are welcome. This class is ideal for beginners interested in a scripted play experience and for those who are ready to make the leap from theatre classes to Main Stage productions in their school or community. Our goal is to build skills and confidence for all young artists.
Please note: Enrollment in this program does not guarantee casting in a Main Stage production.
A high level of dedication, work-ethic, focus, and etiquette are expected throughout rehearsal. Because this is a performance intensive program, conflicts must be minimal and will need to be approved by the Director before rehearsals begin. There is an expectation to work outside of rehearsal on show research, line memorization, character development, show promotion, etc.
Cast members cannot miss a performance. During performances, you must arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the show, and are dismissed immediately following. Shows will run approximately an hour and fifteen minutes with no intermission. The show will be performed in our Studio Space. Seating is general admission and extremely limited. Admission is free.
LEAP: Studio Stage will be rehearsing on-site at SteppingStone Theatre.
Class-specific information will be sent to you two weeks prior to the first rehearsal. Please call our main line at 651-225-9265 with questions.
THEATRE LEARNING IN GRADES 6-12 LOOKS LIKE:
Teen Workshops focus on refining theatre skills in acting, vocal technique, movement, stagecraft, and production while cultivating rich, collaborative experiences as an ensemble. Guided by Teaching Artists, in a positive and supportive process, teens are encouraged to expand their abilities, reflect critically on their work, offer/receive constructive peer feedback on their artistic growth, and learn about the larger context of Art in their lives.
Create and perform an original play which incorporates a specific theatre style or technique. Discuss & contribute ideas as you collaborate with your peers on developing the story, setting, characters, dialogue, and staging. Our Teaching Artists help you gain an understanding of theatre as you explore concepts like stylistic choices, ensemble work, story structure, character development, and theatre vocabulary. Throughout the process-driven creative class experience, you’ll engage in theatre games and activities that hone your artistic skills. Perform your original work for family and friends on the final day of class!
