New Summer Camps Plan

Updated 5:00 05/18/2020

Life as we know it has changed. Amid chaos and worry, we have seen incredible creativity, innovation, and dogged determination from the SteppingStone Community. To parents, caregivers, and teachers: you all have been an inspiration, doing the best that anyone can hope for in this isolated environment. We see you, we hear you, and we are awed by you. Now, we are rolling out a summer plan to support you.

We have invested in Virtual Studios for over two months. We have been running this style of classes for pre-K through high school since March. Through these classes, we have learned how to run exceptional Virtual Studios, ensuring that our students have access to art-making (and parents have access to alone time). The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

We are doing what theatre does best, virtually. Seeing these Student Artists’ work, energy, and hope has reminded us that theatre is more than a play for a room full of people. Theatre is creating connections and building community. Theatre is imagining new possibilities together and then making them real. It’s a dynamic and energetic experience of now, reminding us that we are all connected, and no one is alone. When young people create together, they can make the world a better place.

We are thinking about the summer in two chunks of time. Recently, we surveyed SteppingStone families to learn about how you’re thinking about the summer and what you need from SteppingStone. Our biggest takeaway was that most of you are thinking of summer in two chunks of time: June to mid-July and Mid-July through August. So we’re thinking of it that way, too!

Thank you to all of the families – over 150 of you – who participated in our survey to understand what you, the SteppingStone Community, need right now. Your feedback has made all of the difference as we plan for the summer.

Based on everything we know from you, our students, medical experts, and our government, here’s the plan:

  • Summer Camps through July 17, 2020, will be the same themes, but take place in Virtual Studios.
  • Virtual Studios will be available throughout the summer for families who would prefer that format. We will be sharing Virtual Studio themes and dates for the second half of the summer later this week.
  • In-person camps will be available beginning July 20, 2020. We will share details of our COVID safety plan with you soon.
  • If we anticipate any change to in-person camps, or if health department guidelines change, we will send out an announcement by June 15, 2020.

For families currently enrolled in camps:

  • For camps through July 17, 2020, you will receive an email regarding your classes, price adjustments,  and options.
  • For camps beginning after July 17, 2020, you will remain in those camps.
  • To transfer to or from Virtual Studio or with additional questions regarding registration, please contact Morgan Gray at BoxOffice@steppingstonetheatre.org.
  • For questions regarding details about your child’s camp, Virtual Studios, or other class-specific items, please contact Erin Granger, Creative Learning Programs Manager.

We are SteppingStone, and we are finding new ways to create, together.
