Grades 9-12: Level UP – Acting

Looking for ways to up your acting game? This class will cover all the things you need to know to be successful in an acting audition or play. This class is also perfect for those who are simply interested in learning more about acting. Your teaching artist, a working actor in the twin cities, will introduce you to cold readings, explain how to pick & perform the perfect monologue, and demystify the audition and rehearsal process. Walk out this class with new-found confidence, and a tangible tool-kit of monologues, scenes, and resources. This class is tailored to each student’s unique skill-level; beginning, intermediate, and advanced students are all encouraged to participate!

Although not required, we recommend taking our spring  Level UP – Musical Theatre course, in addition to this course, for a more complete theatre experience.

> Final Performance will be held on Saturday, March 17
> There will be no class on March 3

Theatre Learning for 9-12th grade looks like:

  • Using research and script analysis to revise physical, vocal, and physiological choices impacting the believability and relevance of performance.
  • Examining how character relationships assist in telling a story .
  • Practicing various acting techniques to expand skills in a rehearsal for a performance.

Teen Classes

Teen classes focus on refining theatre skills in acting and vocal technique, stage direction, and movement while cultivating rich, collaborative experiences as an ensemble. Teens work together on devised or scripted material, relevant to their lives, while identifying universal themes or common social issues. In a positive and supportive process, teens reflect critically on their work to offer/receive constructive peer feedback on their artistic growth while learning about the larger context of Art in their lives.

GRADES 6-8

Younger teens contribute ideas and accept and incorporate ideas of others investigate multiple perspectives and solutions to staging challenges while sharing leadership responsibilities to develop collaborative goals.

GRADES 9-12

Older teens use research and script analysis to revise physical, vocal, and physiological choices impacting the believability and relevance of a drama/ theatre work.
